The view out my study window is a pretty ordinary backyard, but sometimes the lighting effects are unexpectedly dramatic. A week or so ago a storm was passing just north of us in the late afternoon. My eye was caught by the striking changes in the clouds and in the coming and going of light in the foreground. We got a flurry of leaves, but no rain. And then in the last picture, taken last night just before sunset, there is a completely different lighting effect -- and a lot fewer leaves on the trees.
My approach to contemplative photography --
