Spiritual companions, spiritual direction, mentoring, soul friends. . .
There are many names, but whatever you call it, at heart the relationship of spiritual accompaniment is sacred space, a time together where the listening heart of your companion can help you hear the story of your life in God.
It is a pause on life’s journey, a chance to take a compass reading with the help of a fellow pilgrim. In regular meetings together, we look for the ways the wind of the Holy Spirit is blowing through your life, inviting transformation and healing.
You bring the material we work with: your faith story, life events, questions, insights, dreams, struggles and joys. I listen actively, look for the Spirit’s movement, and hold you in prayer. I may introduce a new form of prayer or suggest a practice for you to try, but most of our time will be spent in conversation and taking a long, loving look at the text of your life.
I am a Spiritual Companion trained in the Anabaptist Mennonite tradition, influenced by a sojourn with the Society of Friends, and enriched by much reading in other traditions. I meet with individuals both locally and through Zoom, and offer occasional retreats, workshops, and spiritual formation groups. I am also a contemplative writer and photographer; you can explore the fruits of my efforts to "take a long, loving look at the real" over the years elsewhere on this website.
The Spiritual Companion relationship is a confidential one. Whether in individual sessions or in groups, what is shared in our time together is held in confidence. I follow the ethical guidelines agreed upon by Spiritual Directors International.
